To my Disney CP LJfriends, past, present, and as yet uncontacted
It is a month now since you have been working at WDW and I've been following your journals with interest. I've noticed that the frequency of postings has been decreasing, almost in direct proportion to the number of times you use the term 'tired' -- and that seems to be a lot lately.
I would be interested in any impressions you have, now that you've settled in and it's a daily routine. Things that were easier, things that were harder, things that were unexpected.
Having read Kelly's journal from late Monday (9/25), I wanted to forward this to all of you. The following is from my first response to (the now defunct) disneyjohanna journal. Although some relates specifically to what she had written, the sentiments apply to anyone who wears that oval badge. I neglected at the time to request that she pass it on to the rest of her group.
"I found your intriguing journal via the LJ highlight. Having vacationed at WDW since 1981 when Epcot was only an art show at the end of a newly completed monorail line, I've seen the park grow to what it is today (well, only up through last Monday, if you want to get technical), and one of the reasons we keep going back is the treatment we receive from the cast members...be it via a good performance, service at one of the resorts, the folks in the white uniforms with lemon and turquoise trim keeping the park looking like opening day, or because someone behind the scenes worked to keep a program or a ride running. Thank you.
Any first job after college is stressful (so is the second and the third and so on...) and you picked an extra hard one -- one with public exposure. So, if you do have some 'down' days, try to take some comfort in the knowledge that you are making a good impression. We (guests) may not have the chance to tell you in person, but that doesn't mean your contribution is not recognized and frequently appreciated.
And thank you for your behind-the-scenes perspectives we haven't seen on the Travel Channel."
Yes, I am a Disney fan, and I still believe that the bad experiences are the infrequent exception rather than the rule. I also know that the 'squeaky wheel gets greased', and it's a lot easier to notice a problem than it is to notice when everything is going well.
I applaud any of you who take on this challenge of maintaining the high standards that are part of what the name Disney represents. I'm sure you hear this in your training, and coming from a lot of other employers, it would be pretentious, if not ludicrous. But take it from an admittedly biased observer, you do matter, and you do get noticed, even if we're too busy running from one end of the park to the other to stop and say so.
I've contacted most of you because you were on an LJ friends list, and you have permitted me to add you to mine. It makes it a lot easier to keep track of journal updates. If there are other CP journallers that you know of who have public journals, please direct them to this posting so they may introduce themselves I can stop feeling like a stalker.
Have a wonderful ... do you call it a semester (?).
